Finally High Notes!

It took the ENTIRE recital to get here but here they are!

But in all seriousness, these were definitely some of the most fun and most frustrating pieces that I worked on for this recital. In particular, the Adès was such a joy to work on! It's an excerpt from his opera The Tempest which I'm slightly obsessed with right now... If you haven't seen it, subscribe to The Met Opera on demand and watch it now! (They offer a 7 day free trial so there really is no excuse.) It is one of the most incredible operas I have ever seen! I could go on for days about how amazing it is but I'll stop there and just let you experience it for yourself.

Go forth and enjoy! :)

Being a Shepherdess is hard work

Seriously.

My Wolf set tells the story of a shepherdess who goes from being coy with her suitors to finding and losing her lover. These are some of my favorite pieces from the concert! The music is so perfectly expressive and simply gorgeous!! Enjoy!

MOZART!

Or to be more specific, "Padre, germani, addio!" from Idomeneo.

Can you Händel it?

A couple nights ago I had the pleasure of seeing the Metropolitan Opera's Live in HD encore of Giulio Cesare. I must say, David McVicar is BRILLIANT! Who'd have guessed that Händel could be so epic with dancing!
The production as a whole was fantastic but my favorite moments were definitely Nireno and Cleopatra's dance numbers! Natalie Dessay is such an adorable little ball of fire and watching her perform these high energy dances while still singing crazy coloratura perfection was incredible!

New summer project: Learn this aria AND the choreography! (Also, hire two backup dancers. Any takers?)

Unfortunately there isn't a video of Ms. Dessay's performance online yet but there is one of Danielle De Niese in the same production!
Just imagine this with her!
Don't you all just want to dance now?? I'm thinking about choreographing all of my Händel arias from now on! (Well the upbeat ones anyways.)

Let's start a new trend!

More from the recital... Here is my Debussy set: Mandoline, Les Cloches, and Fantoches. I had a lot of fun working on these! Enjoy!

If it ain't Baroque...

...don't fix it!

I apologize for the terrible pun, it was just too perfect!

I finally have the videos from my Junior recital!
That being said, I think I'm going to post them slowly so you can savor them like a delicious dinner.
We started off the recital with a Baroque Bang, opening with Vivaldi's duet Laudamus Te followed by a motet by Barbara Strozzi.

That's all for now but be sure to keep checking for updates, you know I'm saving the best for last! (Ok well, I'm just posting them in program order but the end of the program was the best!)

Enjoy!

The Looking-Glass House

Once upon a time I sang the premier of the opening scene of Jason Mulligan's in progress opera Through the Looking-Glass. I talked about it, I hyped it, I swooned over it, and I realized I never posted the video of it so you can too!

So now, without further ado, the premier of The Looking-Glass House!

The left hand video is of the premier on Jason's recital and the right is the repeat performance from voice forum.

If you love this music as much as I do please spread the word! Tell your friends, tell your family, tell everyone you know! And keep a lookout for another recording with some extra measures of musical goodness that were added after the fact. :)

(Oh, and I'll be singing this in Boston too!)

Summer and Lack of Updates

Title pretty much says it all. I'm on my "summer break" and I have had an absolutely insane couple of weeks with a bunch of updates that I forgot to post... oops.

First off, as some of you may know on April 18th I sang in the premier of Charles Mason's opera Entanglements. It was a terrific run and it was great fun to be a part of such a large scale premier!

And if preparing for that wasn't enough, exactly one week later we put on our end of year scenes show! Below is the video of a scene from Offenbach's Robinson Crusoe with myself and Tenor, Esteban Suero.
Then of course finals and what not happened and kept me busy, blah blah boring things.

I am currently working on a plethora of projets that I think I'll announce in parts to make sure I have things to write about!

Current Project: Boston! I'll be singing in the Classical Singer competition on May 24th in Boston so for the time being I'm working on perfecting my music for that before I delve into the mass amounts of new music I have coming.

I also have an audition this week. That's all I'll say about that for now. Keep watch for more updates in the very near future!
